I hope you have had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine. Thank you for the lovely letters and cards that some of you have posted into school.
I would like you to follow the Year 2 Talk For Writing link that I have added below for English which will provide you with some exciting work for the next two weeks.
For Maths, I like you to follow the home learning activities on the White Rose website for Year 2 (see the link below). There are lessons for each day.
I have also added an activity grid too for your topic and other subjects, a link for some computing work, reading books and RWI daily phonics.
Please keep reading and do what you can to keep learning.

To help children learning to read at home during school closure, we are streaming 7 phonics, reasing and spelling lessons every weekday on our YouTube channel.
Each lesson is ten to fifteen minutes long and available for 24 hours.
Repeats of lessons streamed up until Friday 3rd April will be shown during the Easter holidays (6th - 17th April excluding Bank Holidays).
Speed Sounds Set 1 - for children in Nursery and Reception and children who are new to English
Speed Sounds Set 2 - for children in Reception that can read Set 1 Speed Sounds and for children in Year 1 and 2
Speed Sounds Set 3 - for children in Year 1 and 2 that can read Set 2 Speed Sounds
Don't worry if you miss a lesson. Once each set has been shown, we will replay one a day from each set.
Computing:
Coding games - there are some great coding games on purple mash and J2Code (https://www.j2e.com/j2code/). Scratch and Scratch junior are fantastic free resources to let the children play on a device and develop their problem solving skills.

Deserts Can you draw pictures and add captions to write about desert? Maybe make it into a small information book. |
2D shape Make pictures using 2D shapes and colour it. Talk to an adult about the shapes that you have used.

Poetry Write a poem that you know in your very best handwriting and illustrate it |
Waterproof or not? Can you test some materials to find out if they are waterproof? (plastic, foil, paper towels, card) Make a chart to show your results. |
Oceans/Continents Learn the names of the oceans and continents. Can you find them on a map/globe? Ask an adult to keep asking you the names of these. |
Engineering Challenge Can you make a house for the 3 Little Pigs that the wolf can’t blow down? (use a hairdryer with an adult to test it)

Fantasy Land Draw a picture or make a model of a magical/fantasy land and write a description of it. |
Melting What happens when you melt chocolate? Will it melt more quickly in different places? e.g by the window, outside, near a radiator. Record your results using pictures and writing |
Maps and plans Make a plan of your bedroom. Can you draw a plan from an aerial view?(as if you were a looking down from above)

Bridges Can you make a bridge that can hold 3 Billy Goats Gruff? (use 3 toys to test it) How can you make it stronger? |
Rainbow Spellings Practise reading and spelling the Year 1 and 2 common exception words. Cut out letters from magazines or newspapers to help you learn the trickier ones. |
Time To Measure How tall are you? How long is your foot? What else can you measure using a ruler or a tape measure? Can you make a table to show things that are longer or shorter than a metre? Can you find items that are a metre? |
Recycling Make a poster to encourage people to recycle more. |
Just Create Spend some time doing some sketching or painting. Draw a member of your family, yourself or even a pet. Can you use shading to show dark and lighter areas? |

Daily virtual lessons for children
From Monday 23rd March we’re scheduling Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons on Facebook and YouTube for children to watch at home.
We will release three short Speed Sound lessons with one of our trainers every day for the next two weeks. The films will only be available at the times below:
Please note: the films are streamed live and won’t be available at other times.
We’re also releasing a film of a poem for Reception and Year 1 children to join in with at 2.00 pm every day. The poems will be available on YouTube to watch again and again.
A great opportunity for children to learn these by heart!

Films for parents to help their child learn to read at home with Read Write Inc. Phonics are available on our website and YouTube channel. The YouTube channel will have a quick face-lift to help parents find the films easily. We’re adding a parent film to Facebook every day too.

Please use www.topmarks .co.uk to access Maths and English games. Daily mental maths practise would be great. Choose the Learning Games tab and the 5-7 years tab. There are many games to support money and addition and subtraction, times tables and multiplication and division which the children are familiar with.
This website takes you to a school closure poster with suggested recommended games and activities for Year 2 children. Practise your yr 1/2 spelling words focussing on the ones that your find the trickiest.

Money, Money, Money Practise counting out different totals of money. Is there more than one way to make 10p, 50p, £1. Play shops and practise giving change.

Transport Over Time What can your families remember about transport in the past? Ask them some questions and write down what you find out. Maybe you can find some old family photos. |
Engineering Challenge Make a boat that floats and carries a cargo of at least one penny. How many pennies can it carry before it sinks?

Great Inventions Make a model using junk, lego, card, newspaper and then write some instructions to explain how to make it. |
Material Hunting Go on a material hunt around your house and find out what things are made from. Record what you find through drawings, as a chart or make a book.
